Who knows Onions for the flu?

• BlueLoriBlogSpot
Since my husband has recently been supervising the remodeling of two hospitals where people have come in frequently with the swine flu all I can say is knock on wood we have been fine.

In 1919 when the flu killed up to 50 million people worldwide there was said to be a Doctor thatvisited many farmers to see if he could help them combat the flu.

Many of the farmers and their families were dying from it. The Doctor was quite surprised when he came upon one family and to his surprise everyone was very healthy. The Doctor asked the farmer what he could be doing differently his wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the rooms of the home (probably only two rooms back then).

The story goes the Doctor couldn't believe it and asked if he could have one of the onions so he could place it under a microscope. She gave him one and when he did so he did find the flu virus in the onion! It had obviously absorbed the bacteria keeping the family healthy.

The moral of the story is buy some onions and place them in bowls around your home. If you work at a desk, place one or two in your office or under your desk. Try it and see what happens the E-Mail claims they used this last year and never got ill. If this helps you and your loved ones from getting sick, all the better. If you do get the flu, it just might be a milder case. What have you got to lose a few bucks on onions!!!!

Another thing according to the article was onions and garlic placed around the room was said to have saved people from the black plague years ago. They are supposed to have powerful antibacterial; antiseptic properties.

So there you have it old wives tale maybe but who knows?? I will assume you already know one of the very best things you can do is frequent hand washing. Lastly I just did a google search and lo and behold is this very timely article as well as the video I posted above that emphasize the importance of eating right and includes the use of onions!

Are these whole onions or do you cut them up?  Like a half of an onion?  If you leave the skin on it seems like it could not possibly work?

Snopes is NOT an authority on anything!  DON'T TRUST IT.

Just saying Snopes calls it a myth makes me think it WORKS!
