The squat movement was preceded by the Homesteader movement in the USA and this had, in certain locales, a precedent in common law.

This simply dictates that if a man gains produce of the land and for a certain time, feeds his family, then something close to ownership is conferred.

This in our day of strict Constitutional observance is lost on many patriots. Part of Common Law is the Law of the Commons. And in part, the commons meant all of the land that was not particularly owned by the Crown or any man, it belonged to all of us in common.

So we could go out and cut wood and trap fish and otherwise avail ourselves of what God put for all of us to enjoy.
