Crystal, china maker Waterford Wedgwood files for bankruptcy

LONDON – Wedgwood has been an iconic name in British pottery for 250 years, after its founder Josiah Wedgwood opened the first factory in Stoke-on-Trent, central England, in 1759. It began making bone china in the 19th century.

These are the sad bankruptcies. Businesses that make a product still as useful and amazing as they were 250 years ago. Sure, alternatives such as plastic and glass have competed. But there still is no substitute for a nice ceramic (clay) dish. You could easily state these ceramics were the culmination of thousands of years of pottery. But when you make expensive products you need people who can afford them. See ya.
