Here is the latest edition of Project Arizona News

OUR ACTIVITIES SINCE THE LAST ISSUE

THE PARTICIPANTS' PERSPECTIVE

I have had such an amazing time since I arrived to Phoenix. So far I made unforgettable memories with 7 excellent guys, who are from all over the world. Since the first day we arrived we were trated with such kidness. Our first activity was an invitation by Mr. Jeff Johnson for going to a hike with his family. Right after the hike they served us a wonderful dinner. Also they invited us to go to their local church, where everyone was so kind and we felt so welcome. Another event that I enjoyed was the Chinese New Year that took place in the church as well. As a Chinese, I was so happy to be invited to attend to this celebration on Feb.25th.

The academic aspect of Project Arizona consists on having an internship. The institution I'll be working for the following months is called ArizonaTalks. What makes it even more special is that I'll be sharing the same internship with Nico and Estefania. Our internship provider, Carlos, is a such a nice and enthusiastic man. He is also an excellent leader and has encouraged us to be part of the organization of our first event on Jan.27th, called an insight view-Political Stories from South America. This is a challenging and wonderful work experience.

In addition, we were invited to different events, which unables us  to meet interesting and important people. Being part of this experience makes me so happy. So, I just can't wait for the rest weeks wich I will spend in Phoenix, Los Angeles and Washington DC.

Thanks God for bringing me here!

Myra Huang from China

Being part of project Arizona is a life change experience: I have the chance to meet and live with people from all over the world. All of the knowledge acquired at ASU and from strategical partners combined with the great internship I have, are going to help me develop and sharp my skills.

"Arizona Talks" is one of the internships that Project Arizona offers and I'm currenty working there. So far we have been able to be part of important events. We also visited different places promoting Arizona Talks. On January 27 we hosted an event where 3 members of the group talked about the situation in South America and how the lack of institutions and freedom combined with populism have impacted their societies. Next month we have a huge criminal justice event that will show all the problems of mass incarceration and how minor felonies can get over 35 years of jail! The main goal of this event is to avoid huge trials and judgements for minor felonies.

Project Arizona is a great opportunity to meet a lot of important people that are more than committed to make  change and to see and share all the classic liberal values through their own areas and platforms.
