"Who was that masked man?" was the question in the wake of the Lone Ranger's departures from his good deeds. Remember, remember, the fifth of November. Guy Fawkes was just a little too slow lighting that fuse under the British Parliament. His caricature mask is most appropriate to remember in that classic film, "V for Vendetta", a primer for vigilante public service if there ever was one. Of course, our Hispanic friends might recall Zorro! Masks are like guns, only as good as the people behind them. But masks conceal identity, a scary thing for tyrants who insist on labelling everybiody and everything for the quick administration of exploitation, oppression, and retribution. En Garde!
