Suppose every gun were to be removed by the federal and state governments! Now remember that even now those same governments can't stop criminals from having guns. Explain how they would "control" six to eighteen million Americans that knew the removeale was coming and had time to safeguard the weapons.
Also remember every military base and police station would have weapons for the taking.
A gun is not the dangerous part of the weapon, the person is.
