Biden Regime Stoking Escalated Conflict in Eastern Ukraine

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Ukraine is a virtual US colony, its status since the Obama/Biden regime replaced its democratic government with Nazi-infested tyranny in February 2014.

For most of the past seven years, US armed, trained and directed Ukrainian conscripts have been waging intermittent war on Donbass in the country's southeast.

The region's democratic People's Republic of Donetsk and Lugansk broke from Kiev, refusing to go along with US-controlled fascist rule.

According to regional expert Yeghia Tashjian, "(i)t is no secret that Ukraine is preparing for war or at least triggering an armed conflict in…Donbass (bordering Russia) with Turkish and Western blessings," adding:

"It has been two weeks since I began monitoring the Ukrainian and Russian army's supply routes and deployment of heavy weapons near Donbass."

"Kiev, motivated by the Turkish and Azerbaijani victory in (Nagorno-Karabakh), tried to establish military relations with Turkey and bought Turkish Bayraktar TB2 drones."

"Russia, aware that it may engage in a two-front war and knowing well that Armenia cannot defend itself against another Turkish-Azerbaijani invasion, is consolidating its presence in southern Armenia by building military posts and reopening the abandoned airfield of Sisian in Syunik."

Turkey's Erdogan is hostile to peace and stability in Syria, Iraq, and Donbass along Russia's border.

Ignoring the rule of law, he's allied with Kiev against Donbass, supporting its intermittent war, and its aim to regain control over the Russian Republic of Crimea and Federal City of Sevastopol.

The above shows he's more enemy than ally of Russia — pursuing his own regional hegemonic interests exclusively.

Weeks earlier at the Security Council, Russia's UN envoy Vassily Nebenzia slammed Kiev for pursuing years of war on Donbass — shunning resolution, supporting US hostility toward all things Russia.

At the time, Nebenzia said the following:

From 2014 to now, "we still haven't gotten (a straight) answer to two very important questions:"

"How exactly does Ukraine intend to peacefully resolve the conflict, and how does Kiev envisage the special status of Donbass within Ukraine?"

"The answers to those questions will entirely determine any prospects for a settlement because after the beginning in 2014 of Kiev's use of force and the ongoing shellings of residential areas by the Ukrainian army, which continue to this day, the people of Donbass have not felt any connection with Ukraine."

The US, UK, EU and Kiev falsely blame Russia for stoking conflict in Donbass they're fully responsible for.

The Trump and now Biden regime maintain the myth of Russian annexation of Crimea, along with falsely accusing Moscow of "aggression and occupation" of the new Russian republic.

Their fabricated view is much the same about Donbass.

Nebenzia slammed Britain, France and Germany for allying with US support for aggression by Kiev against Donbass, adding:

Nations that "back one side" of conflict in Ukraine over the sovereign rights of the other side "play along with its sickly fantasies about 'Russian aggression.' "

They "cannot call themselves mediators. (They're) accomplice(s) in the crimes committed by Kiev against the Donbass people."

Last month, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov slammed US/Kiev-stoked tensions in Donbass, saying the following:

"We are indeed following the growing tensions along the line of contact with profound concern."

"We take note of more shelling of the Donbass territory by the Ukrainian armed forces or various units that Ukraine has close to the line of contact."

"We take note of the Ukrainian military servicemen entering those zones where they should not be after the end of the disengagement."

"We analyze the situation carefully. We hope that the Ukrainian leadership will be able to keep these units, which are either the regular army or something else, from further acts of provocation and from escalating tensions."

"We hope that Ukraine will remain committed to the agreements that have been reached within the Contact Group, will remain committed to the Ukrainian head of state's signature under the Minsk Package of Measures."

The last comment reflects wishful thinking.

Kiev breached virtually everything earlier agreed on related to security in and around Donbass.

In cahoots with US/Turkish imperial interests, it's stoking escalated conflict in the breakaway region.

Along with increased shelling, it mobilized thousands of troops, heavy weapons and equipment along the line of contact between Ukraine and Donbass.

According to Moscow's envoy to the (Russia, OSCE, Ukraine) Trilateral Contact Group Boris Gryzlov:

Kiev violated everything related to resolving conflict with Donbass, adding:

Tensions are escalating toward "crossing a dangerous line."

The risk of Kiev crossing a "red line" is high.

It would mean "resumption of full-fledged military activity."

What Russia is going all-out to avoid may not be enough because of hostile intentions by Biden regime hardliners - using Ukrainian forces as proxy fighters in pursuit of US imperial interests.

On March 31, Blinken spoke to his Kiev counterpart Dmytro Kuleba.

A State Department readout of the call said the following:

Blinken "affirmed unwavering (US) support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of Russia's ongoing aggression in the Donbas and Crimea (sic)."

"He expressed concern about the (escalating) security situation in eastern Ukraine" — with no mention of US/Kiev responsibility for what's going on.

On Tuesday, Kremlin spokesman Peskov said no progress was achieved toward deescalating tensions and resolving conflict along the contact line — from talks by Russia with Normandy Format countries France, Germany and Ukraine, adding:

"Things are not going well with the Normandy Format."

"We can state that under (Ukrainian) President Zelensky, it has not been possible to advance one iota."

"(R)eaching new agreements is impossible, because how can one resolve a conflict if one side does not want to communicate with the other?"

In talks with "Berlin and Paris, we are trying to find a way out of this vicious circle."

"But it is very difficult to talk to Kiev" — because its ruling authorities follow orders from Washington.

Does Kiev intend to resume full-scale conflict against Donbass?

On March 24, Zelensky's Decree No. 117/2021 calls for "de-occupation and reintegration of…Crimea and the City of Sevastopol."

According to Ukrainian state media, he "signal(ed) to the international community that Ukraine is consistent in its actions to restore territorial integrity (sic), violated by the Russian Federation's neglect of its international obligations (sic)."

Kiev's "Cabinet of Ministers is instructed to develop an action plan for the implementation of the strategy, on the basis of which the relevant government bodies will prepare and implement measures to ensure the de-occupation and reintegration of the peninsula."

"The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine approved the (above) strategy."

In response to the threat of what may follow, Russia mobilized forces along its border with Donbass and Ukraine — sending them to Crimea as well to protect against possible Kiev-initiated hostilities.

Are Biden regime hardliners trying to draw Russia into direct confrontation with Ukraine, using its forces as proxy fighters in similar fashion to how it uses ISIS and other jihadists in Syria, Iraq and elsewhere?

What's going on is cause for great concern.

It remains to be seen if greater conflict than already will erupt along Russia's border with Ukraine — to be wrongfully blamed on Moscow by the West if things turn out this way.
