Multiple COVID Strains. Outbreaks to Continue Ahead?

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

Thailand Medical News  (TMN) "serve(s) the medical industry (and) laymen interested in…the latest (health-related) developments and news" from the country, region and "around the world."

Its latest online edition explained that "eight distinct mutated (COVID-19 strains were identified) with different clinical manifestations."

Over "2,000 genetic sequences" of the virus showed that it's "mutating on average every 15 days."

It's likely that many ill people are being diagnosed with COVID-19 when sickened by another strain.

It's unclear if mutations affect its virulence.

TMN grimly warns that "the Covid-19 crisis is unlikely to peak or even be over anytime soon but rather what we are currently witnessing is simply the dry runs by this new coronavirus."

TMN expects further outbreaks in waves for some time to come because the virus is mutating and unlikely to die off naturally.

National Geographic supports the view that COVID-19 is mutating every 15 days on average as it spreads worldwide, adding:

It doesn't necessarily mean that mutations are more harmful. They may be but no evidence so far suggests it.

Because eight distinct strains were identified, "new diagnostics that are more broader in scope need to be developed," TMN explained, stressing:

No single drug may be effective in treating COVID-19. A combination of drugs may be needed.

New symptoms were observed in the UK, including gastrointestinal problems, "nervous system damage" affecting smell and causing confusion, as well as "cognitive issues."

Causes of death from the virus include "heart (and) kidney failure."

TMN left the following grim statement unexplained until more evidence is available, saying:

"Recent autopsies of dead Covid-19 patients in Washington have even revealed far shocking details which we are not at liberty to disclose just yet…"

Largely asymptomatic COVID-19 patients may exhibit mild short-term throat soreness with no fever.

In Italy, Spain and Iran, some asymptomatic patients "deteriorat(ed) in less than 48 hours and" died.

Despite great success in Wuhan, China is by no means out of the woods. TMN believes a second large-scale wave is coming in the country.

If so, all or most other nations may experience the same thing, especially ones with large populations like China, India and the US.

The disease is COVID-19. The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 is the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

A similar example is the HIV virus, AIDS the disease.

Genetic structure determines the name of a virus by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV).

On February 11, the organization called "severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)" the name of the new virus that causes COVID-19.

The name was chosen because it's genetically related to the 2003 SARS coronavirus even though both are different.

According to TMN, "(m)ost…governments and health authorities are clueless about this new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and are mishandling the crisis while medical experts and researchers are too focused on their own tracks without stopping and comparing all the emerging data and studies as a whole," adding:

"Many…Western researchers are also so arrogant that they refuse to acknowledge many studies emerging from Chinese researchers…"

"Most doctors and health professionals are also just as clueless about how to treat Covid-19 and are merely basing protocols from guidelines written by healthcare authorities."

No clinically proven drugs are available to treat COVID-19. Ones used are experimental.

"(S)ome…studies…have been manipulated by governments and pharma companies."

Based on what's scientifically known so far, TMN "doubt(s) that the crisis will even be over in 15 to 18 months, as we doubt a real vaccine and drug protocol can be found in time to deal with all the emerging strains and epidemic waves."

"Be prepared for a long haul of at least a few years," TMN warned, a grim forecast.

At the same time, it noted drug research breakthroughs to manage the ongoing "first wave…"

TMN is independent with no government financial or other support. Its website "tr(ies) not to accept ads."

It relies on reader support, lamenting:

Despite millions of unique visitors monthly, it received only 11 reader donations so far.

It tells people wanting truthful information about COVID-19 to keep following its website.
