Trump Not a Warmonger? The Chosen One?

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

He's addicted to self-adulation, thin-skinned to a fault, quick to lash out against critics.

Last summer he called himself "the chosen one." Evangelical extremists claim it's by God to do his bidding, implying that critics are sinful.

He's the latest in a long line of US warmaking presidents, waging hot wars he inherited in Afghanistan, Syria and Yemen, supporting war in Libya, new ones launched in Iraq and Iran by killing its nationals, along with war by other means on numerous countries.

According to US war secretary Esper, Trump is "willing to sit down and discuss without preconditions a new way forward, a series of steps by which Iran becomes a more normal country (sic)."

The above is code language for calling on Iran to surrender its sovereign rights to US interests, notably handing over control of its hydrocarbon resources to Big Oil for plunder, and abandoning support for Syria, Yemeni Houthis,  Palestinians, and others in the region wanting US occupation of their countries ended.

Iran wants no part of dealing with the US, time and again proving it can never be trusted.

In response to the Trump regime's assassination of Iranian General Soleimani and Iraqi deputy PMU commander Muhandis, US regional personnel and facilities are vulnerable to attack.

On Sunday, the Pentagon's Balad airbase in Iraq north of Baghdad was struck by mortar fire, four Iraqi soldiers on the base wounded, according to Reuters.

More of the same is likely ahead. US military and civilian personnel off base in the region are vulnerable to attack and assassination.

Hostile actions made the US persona non grata in the region for the majority of its people. It's just a matter of time before its personnel become casualties.

Separately on Sunday, Iranian Basij militia members protested outside the UK embassy in Tehran over reports that its envoy to Iran Rob Macaire was involved in inciting Iranian students to protest against the accidental downing of Ukraine Airlines Flight 752 by the IRGC last week.

According to AFP News, scores of protesters burned the UK flag, chanting "Death to Britain."

Britain is allied with US and Israeli hostility toward Iran, wanting its sovereign independence replaced by pro-Western puppet rule.

The presence of US and allied forces along with Israel's rage for eliminating all rival states assures endless regional violence and chaos as long as their imperial agendas are pursued.
