The Shameful Record of the Self-Styled Newpaper of Record

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

All the news it claims fit to print isn't fit to read. I've said it before and I'll repeat it again.

Its daily rubbish includes disinformation, Big Lies, and fake new, journalism the way it should be long ago abandoned.

Times readers get yellow journalism — distorting, exaggerating, and suppressing the truth on issues mattering most, especially geopolitical ones.

Time and again in its reports, fiction substitutes for truth and full disclosure. The broadsheet is a pseudo-official instrument of imperial and predatory capitalist propaganda.

Daily editions lie, deceive, distort, suppress, and otherwise operate as instruments of power interests against the general welfare, Thursday's edition like others. Some examples:

"Boris Johnson Has a Brexit Deal. Now He Needs Parliament's Support"

It's the latest example of a no-deal/deal no parliamentarians should support. As things now stand, most MPs oppose Johnson's sellout to Brussels, including Labor, Lib Dems, the Brexit party, Scottish National party, Northern Ireland DUP MPs, and unknown numbers of Tories.

UK parliamentarians will debate and vote on Johnson's "deal" in a rare Saturday session.

His scheme is all about selling out ordinary Brits for privileged interests, notably by wanting neoliberal harshness intensified — an agenda the Times supports in the US and elsewhere.

The Times: "Ambassador to EU to Testify That Trump Delegated Ukraine Policy to Giuliani"

A companion piece headlined: "Trump's Impeachment Crumbles as Witnesses Agree to Talk"

These and countless other Times pieces are all about the broadsheet's vindictive support for the Ukrainegate scam, a second bite of the politicized campaign to vilify Trump for the wrong reasons, ignoring key right ones.

Russiagate crumbled under its own illegitimacy, Ukrainegate likely to go the same way. It aims to give undemocratic Dems an edge in 2020 presidential and congressional election.

It's using dirty tactics in pursuit of their aims, proving they exceed GOP debauchery.

The Times: "US Presses for a Cease-Fire After Turkish Incursion in Syria"

Throughout Obama's war on Syrian sovereignty and its people, now Trump's, the Times supported US-led mass slaughter and destruction, vilifying overwhelmingly popular Assad, and pretending US forces waged war on the scourge of ISIS both right wings of the its war party supports.

The self-styled newspaper of record's hollow criticism of Turkish aggression needs no elaboration.

The broadsheet supports and cheerleads US imperial wars without exceptions — aiming for unchallenged global hegemony no matter the human cost.

A Monday Times editorial accused Trump of "Creat(ing) a Moral and Strategic Disaster" in Syria.

He inherited what his predecessors began, multiple "disaster(s)," devastating Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Ukraine, Somalia, and elsewhere.

He created "disaster(s)" in Iran and Venezuela the Times wholeheartedly supports — along with all the above US wars of aggression and earlier ones, making the broadsheet complicit in its high crimes of war and against humanity by operating as a Pentagon press agent.

The Times: "Elijah E. Cummings, Powerful (undemocratic Dem) Who Investigated Trump, Dies at 68."

His deplorable record was polar opposite the fabricated Times claim, falsely saying "he fought tirelessly for his (Baltimore) hometown…"

Below is a strong dose of truth-telling a good friend emailed me about Cummings in response to his death, saying:

"It is said one should not speak ill of the departed but exceptions must be made."

"The headlines read "Powerful Democratic Congressman Elijah Cummings Dies…Powerful in what respect?"

"Citizens in his home district — mostly black and over half living in poverty — can't point to much of anything having Cummings in office has done to improve their economic or social lives."

"Decades of loyally showing up at polls to return Cummings to DC and his constituents have little to show for it."

"Cummings, like so many others who emerged from the 60s civil rights heyday, simply rode the coattails of MLK to success and lived off the fumes of his hard work and sacrifice."

"They did little to mostly nothing to continue the progress being made by the black masses."

"Cummings spent the last couple of years bashing Trump 24/7 instead of working with the White House (as opposing parties have always done) to try to get something of import done to help the average Joe who needs jobs, higher wages, quality healthcare that won't bankrupt, affordable housing (not just for the poor but for middle classes who are being squeezed with rising house prices and rents), and the list of dire needs goes on."

"My sympathies to his family who lost a loved one, but I have ZERO sympathy for Cummings who frittered away decades of 'power' that should have been used to improve lives of not just his district but of the people in the nation."

What the Times should have wrote, it suppressed, falsely portraying a dirty business as usual figure as heroic, ignoring how he betrayed his constituents throughout most of his deplorable tenure.

The same goes for the vast majority in Congress from both right wings of its war party.

The record of the self-styled newspaper of record is shameful — a lying machine for wealth, power, and privilege.

It's unapologetically disdainful of democratic values, rule of law principles, and fundamental rights of everyone, especially the most disadvantaged in the US and elsewhere.
