Russia: Trump Regime Threatens to Undermine International Security

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

If WW III is launched, it'll be made in the USA because of its rage to dominate other nations by whatever it takes to achieve its objectives.

Russia expressed great concern about hostile Trump regime actions against Iran, fearing where things are heading if efforts aren't made to halt the march to war.

On Tuesday, its Foreign Ministry released the following statement on what's going on, saying:

"Moscow has watched with concern as the US has ratcheted up tensions around Iran for over a year."

"Leveling baseless charges and withdrawing from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, Washington has steadily piled on massive sanction pressure and taken actions, including actions of a military nature, intended to provoke Iran, while demanding unwarranted concessions of it, up to and including the de facto abandonment of its absolutely legitimate interests in international affairs, despite the fact that Iran's nuclear activities are exclusively peaceful and fully supervised by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)."

"Following the high-profile incident with a US drone, Washington announced individual sanctions against the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and a number of high-level military officials."

"While reaffirming its commitment to dialogue with Iran, Washington seems intent on burning bridges."

"This is just the latest example of the continued US propensity to dictate its will to sovereign states."

"Imagining itself to be the master of the fate of the world, it adopts increasingly aggressive policies and is quick to 'punish' those who refuse to submit to American dictates."

"Russia stands in full solidarity with the friendly people of Iran and its government."

The Trump regime "should consider where such a reckless course of action might lead."

"Not only could it destabilize the Middle East, it threatens to undermine the entire system of international security" if its recklessness keeps pushing things toward war with Iran.

Separately, head of Russia's Security Council Nikolai Patrushev debunked the fabricated Trump regime claim about Iran downing a US spy drone in international airspace," saying:

"I have information from the Defense Ministry of the Russian Federation that this drone was in Iranian airspace" — provocatively and illegally, ignoring multiple warnings to leave.

Detailed coordinates prove it. Trump regime and Pentagon officials lied about the incident. DJT's Treasury Department responded with more illegal sanctions on Iran.

Trump announced them on Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini who died in 1989 —  while Pompeo and Bolton seek coalition partners for aggression on the country.

On Wednesday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani slammed Trump and his henchmen for falsely accusing the Islamic Republic of seeking nuclear weapons it abhors while ignoring nuclear armed and dangerous Israeli — the real regional threat along with the US military presence.

"Are you really concerned about nuclear weapons," he asked? "Are you unaware of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei's fatwa (his religious decree), through which he has ruled development of nuclear weapons as illegal?"

Khamenei called Trump offer of talks with Iran pure "deception," concealing longstanding aims to return the country to US client state status, its resources looted, its people exploited, adding:

"Having failed to achieve its goal through pressure, the enemy is coming forward with an offer of talks, while assuming the Iranian nation is simple-minded, and claims 'the Iranian nation should make progress.' "

"The world's most hated and vicious government, which is itself behind wars, sedition and exploitation of other countries, levels accusations against and hurls insults at the honorable nation of Iran on a daily basis."

The Islamic Republic "will not retreat." It will not surrender to unacceptable US demands

Hostile US policies against sovereign states it doesn't control reflect what its imperial arrogance is all about, a global menace threatening Americans and others abroad.

Separately, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres disgraces the office he hold, serving US-led Western interests, consistently violating UN Charter principles he's sworn to uphold — notably preserving and protecting human rights, supporting world peace and stability, denouncing wars of aggression, and respecting fundamental international laws.

Instead of opposing US naked aggression in multiple theaters, he supports it by failing to denounce what no one should be silent about.

Instead of supporting victims of aggression, he tacitly backs the perpetrators by failing to demand accountability for their high crimes.

He criticized Syrian forces instead of supporting their courageous struggle against US-supported terrorists – permitted under Security Council Resolution 2401.

Instead of condemning the Trump regime's march to war on nonbelligerent Iran, the supreme high crime against peace, he urged all parties to "exercise maximum restraint" — an unacceptable weak-kneed remark.

Why hasn't he denounced efforts by Pompeo and Bolton to enlist coalition partners for war on Iran? Why does he pretend to support peace while turning a blind eye to US-led naked aggression?

Iran threatens no one, championing world peace and stability. The US threatens everyone.

Its flagrant breaches of international, constitutional, and US statute laws are well-documented.

Throughout his tenure since installed by the US, Guterres failed to challenge high crimes committed by Washington, NATO, Israel, and their imperial partners.

He's part of the problem, not the solution, supporting world peace rhetorically alone, failing to use the power of his office to demand aggressor nations and their officials be held accountable for their high crimes.
