US to Let Russia Decide Assad's Fate? Hold the Cheers

by Stephen Lendman ((stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

It's not for Russia or any other country to decide the fate of another. It's for their alone people to choose who'll lead them, no one else.

According to the neocon/CIA-connected Washington Post-owned Foreign Policy (FP) magazine, Secretary of State Tillerson said Assad's fate "lies in the hands of Russia, and that the Trump administration's priority is limited to defeating the Islamic State."

What rubbish! Washington didn't wage over six years of naked aggression on Syria for regime change and control of the country to quit. Nor did Trump escalate Obama's war to suddenly seek peace and stability.

America supports the scourge of ISIS and other terrorist groups it pretends to oppose. Tillerson's comments turned truth on its head.

As America's top diplomat, his main priority is serving its ruthless imperial agenda, waging war on humanity. Lying and deceiving is part of his job, the way all US officials operate. Nothing they say is credible.

Months earlier, Tillerson advocated removing Assad from power. When asked if Trump intended to organize an international coalition for regime change, he said "(t)hose steps are underway" - days later adding his tenure is "coming to an end."

At the time, Trump said "(h)e's there and…running things. So something should happen" - falsely accusing Syria of using CWs, following the false flag Kahn Sheikhoun incident, Assad wrongfully blamed for a nonexistent sarin attack.

In talks last week with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Tillerson lied about Washington turning a new leaf in Syria.

He lied claiming multiple incidents of US aggression against Syrian forces in recent months only aimed to achieved tactical goals.

He lied saying they were to deter Syrian use of CWs. Its entire arsenal was destroyed under international supervision. None remain. Tillerson knows it but lied anyway.

An unnamed State Department declined to comment on Tillerson's recent remarks - saying only the Trump administration remains "committed to the Geneva process."

It supports a "credible political process that can resolve the question of Syria's future. Ultimately, this process, in our view, will lead to a resolution of Assad's status."

"The Syrian people should determine their country's political future through a political process."

America's imperial agenda is polar opposite these deceptive remarks - pretending the most ruthless regime in world history since the 18th century overnight became a good guy.

Russia stresses Syrians alone should decide who'll lead them, free from foreign interference. Assad is overwhelmingly popular.

Syrians want no one else in charge. It's their country and their choice, affirmed by fundamental international law.

Facts on the ground show Washington's agenda is polar opposite Tillerson's deception. Claiming weeks earlier he's beginning a reengagement process with Russia to rebuild trust flies in the face of unprecedented US hostility toward Moscow in the post-Cold War era.

Expect no change in US/Russian relations following Trump's meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Hamburg later this week.

Neocons infesting Washington remain implacably hostile toward Moscow. Bilateral summit discussions won't change a thing.
