Tech showcase CES will return in-person in Las Vegas next January but with fewer...

The annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is returning to the physical world in 2022, after this year's event was forced to go online only due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, organizer Consumer Technology Association (CTA) said Wednesday that the conference will see attendance numbers slashed for the January 2022 event in Las Vegas.

Before the pandemic, CES was the largest annual show in Las Vegas and in 2020 drew about 170,000 attendees - with about 4,000 companies exhibiting their technology and gadgets.

CTA expects 75,000 attendees next year and so far 1,000 companies have committed to the show, with more expected, said Jean Foster, senior vice president of marketing and communications.

The smaller number of attendees is due to COVID-19-related travel restrictions that are likely to keep companies and crowds at bay.

'We're thrilled to return to Las Vegas – home to CES for more than 40 years – and look forward to seeing many new and returning faces,' said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CTA. 'Hundreds of executives have told us how much they need CES to meet new and existing customers, find partners, reach media and discover innovation.'
