Which state generates the largest amount of energy from nuclear sources? In May, it was Illinois, with 8,649 thousand megawatt hours. Alaska, Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia and Wyoming don't generate significant nuclear energy.

How nuclear generation changed month over month

Across the country, electricity generation from nuclear power increased 8.7 percent from April to May. Of the states with significant nuclear generation, nine showed decreases during that period.

Nationally, nuclear generation fell 4.2 percent from May 2019 to May 2020. But some states saw significant differences year over year.
