Fmr FEC Commissioner: Enough Evidence to Justify FEC Investigation into AOC Campaign

A former FEC Commissioner says there is "more than enough evidence" to justify the FEC opening a civil investigation into the complaint against Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and her chief of staff Saikat Chakrabarti.

Last week, Ocasio-Cortez and Chakrabarti were accused of violating campaign finance laws and illegally funneling nearly $885,000 in contributions from political action committees.

"As a former FEC commissioner who has studied the complaint against Ocasio-Cortez and Chakrabarti, I have concluded that there is unquestionably more than enough evidence to justify the FEC opening a civil investigation," wrote Hans Von Spakovsky in a recent Fox News oped.

Even worse, writes Spakovsky, there's also enough evidence for the Department of Justice to consider opening a criminal investigation into the complaint.

"There seems to be enough evidence here to justify opening a criminal investigation," he writes.  "As the Washington Examiner reported, Chakrabarti appeared to be operating a "slush fund." Campaign finance attorneys called this arrangement 'really weird.'"
