Hundreds of New Species Discovered


A Filipino-French research team discovered between 150-250 new species of crustaceans and 1,500 – 2,500 new species of mollusks. They estimate that there are more than 1,200 crustaceans and 6,000 mollusks still undiscovered. To discover these new species they planned a five-year research program to explore the waters around the Philippines. The waters around the Philippines are known as the coral triangle is home to the highest number of marine species recorded to-date.
