Religious Observance Ends in Iraq But Not Attacks: 84 Killed, 67 Wounded

Over 60,000 security personnel were on hand to protect the pilgrims as they traveled in and out of Baghdad to visit a large shrine where the Iman’s remains are said to rest.


Shelling left nine dead and 16 wounded in Falluja. Four were killed and nine were wounded during a later round of artillery fire. Five militants were killed in the Segar area.

In Hit, a bomb at a home wounded a policeman and his son. Hand grenades wounded two policemen.

A roadside bomb in Haditha killed two policemen and wounded four more.
