But here's the real news;....

"The first time the police came it was over alleged tax evasion and still the temples lay undiscovered. But a year later the police swooped on the community demanding: "Show us these temples or we will dynamite the entire hillside." '

How wonderful to labor all those years, only to have the fruits of your labor and vision stolen from you. How nice.

I was hoping someone would read the article and note this very thing. You put it far better than I could. Government at its best...I like how they later decided to "let" him continue to decorate what he excavated, but denied him the ability to continue expanding it since he didn't ask for permission in the first place. Got to keep the tourist attraction looking good for revenue.
