Pearce, one of the state's most powerful and controversial politicians, released a statement late Tuesday afternoon saying that he told Gov. Jan Brewer that he was in support of her calling the election this fall.
The council's declaration put police Chief Jeff Gilbert in charge, making [the Mayor] Foster the "deputy chief executive of nothing right now," he said. It also allows the 5-member council to meet without public notice and suspend all public comment
