Question about E-Solicitations

On Black Friday and the two days prior to it, I received about 60 email solicitations from scores of companies offering Black Friday deals.  How did they find me?

I don't do Facebook or other social media, don't click on click-bait or advertisements, don't respond to sales because I just buy what I need when I need it, don't have Alexa in the house listening to me, am not lonely and looking for company, and try not to give my email address to businesses.  I rarely purchase anything on line, other than a book once in a while on Amazon or a movie on Netflix.  I did purchase some termite killer on Amazon that Home Depot no longer carried, but I stopped doing that because Amazon's price was higher and the stuff came to the house over-packaged.

As I've done since the start of the Internet, I do a lot of searches for historical and current data on economics, demographics, wages, and social indicators, mostly from government or think-tank websites.  I've had two websites, including one when the Internet was young, but no longer have one.

So why did I get so many solicitations from companies?  And how can I see that the senders are sent to the gulag for life for harassment and eavesdropping?

Cheers,

Mencken's Ghost
