Catholic Hierarchy Against Social Justice in Nicaragua

Catholic Hierarchy Against Social Justice in Nicaragua

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org - Home - Stephen Lendman)

The Vatican and its global hierarchy support privileged interests over popular ones worldwide.

The church is hostile to equity and social justice everywhere, pretending otherwise.

In his earlier capacity as archbishop of Buenos Aires, Pope Francis was complicit in Argentina's dirty war.

Thousands were disappeared, detained, tortured and murdered in cold-blood to benefit wealth and power interests at the expense of social and political justice.

Vatican history isn't pretty, progressive liberation theology supporting social justice considered heretical.

The church is notoriously allied with dark forces, failing to support democratic values and rule of law principles its leadership pays lip service to alone.

US regimes and the church hierarchy never forgave Sandinistas for overthrowing the tyrannical US-backed Somoza dictatorship in 1979, for defeating Contra imperial proxies, for being democratically reelected to govern Nicaragua in 2007.

The US 2017 Nicaraguan Investment Conditionality Act (NICA) was initial payback - cutting off loans from international financial institutions, used for social spending on healthcare, education, housing, and other public needs.

In mid-April, anti-government protests began, orchestrated to appear spontaneous, carefully planned by dark forces for regime change - resembling other US color revolution attempts in numerous countries.

What ostensibly began over increased taxes and decreased benefits became violent - extremist anti-government provocateurs responsible for numerous deaths and injuries.

Reported numbers vary from around 200 to 350, hundreds more injured. In mid-July, police arrested provocateurs carrying containers of AK-47 ammunition.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres failed to condemn the ongoing coup attempt to topple Nicaragua's legitimate government.

He issued a weak-kneed statement through his spokesman, "urg(ing) all parties…to refrain from the use of violence, and to fully commit to participating in the national dialogue in order to de-escalate violence and find a peaceful solution to the current crisis" - ignoring dark forces responsible for instigating and continuing it for regime change.

Activist lawyer Dan Kovalik earlier compared violent anti-government protests to similar ones in Venezuela, saying:

Tactics include "demonstrators' use of 'artisanal weapons,' such as mortars and rockets, designed to obscure 'the line between peaceful protest and the tactics of subversion and urban warfare,' and thus to provoke a government response which could be labeled 'a violation of human rights.' "

What's going on is an attempt "to falsely blame the government for chemical weapons use (a tried and true way to provoke foreign intervention)."

Numbers killed and injured have been "inflat(ed)," deaths of police and other security forces "downplay(ed)."

"(L)ooting of private and public property, including memorials to left-wing revolutionary leaders such as Hugo Chavez" occurred.

Anti-government "snipers" are used to kill and injure Nicaraguans.

The "Catholic Church" and profiteering NGOs support "anti-government activities. CIA dirty hands are all over them, the anti-democratic National Endowment for Democracy and USAID providing funding to opposition elements.

Along with Cuba and Venezuela, Ecuador under Correa and Morales in Bolivia, Nicaragua under Daniel Ortega opposes Washington's imperial agenda, its wars of aggression, its aim for global hegemony, wanting all sovereign independent governments transformed into US vassal states.

The Vatican and Nicaraguan bishops support anti-government protests. Their so-called efforts to help mediate a national dialogue are one-sided.

They shockingly made death threats against Ortega and his family members. Church support is key to aiding dark forces wanting regime change, Nicaraguan sovereign independence eliminated, tyranny with a friendly face replacing it.

During celebrations marking the Sandinista Revolution's 39th anniversary last week, Ortega blasted what he called US-financed right-wing opposition groups responsible for months of violence.

He called Catholic bishops "coup leaders" for collaborating with opposition elements involved in the national dialogue.

He denounced them for working to topple his democratically elected government, including use of churches to hide arms and ammunition.

"I thought they were mediators, but no," he said. "They were committed to the coup-plotters. They were part of the plan with the coup-plotters."

Days earlier, he denounced "those who curse us and condemn us to death in the name of religious institutions."

Monsignor Baez shamefully accused the "government of Nicaragua (of) cross(ing) the limit (of the) inhuman and immoral," adding '(t)he international community cannot be indifferent!"

Dark US forces want regime change in Nicaragua, Venezuela, Cuba, and other sovereign independent nations - naked aggression and color revolution coups their favored tactics.
