Three Amigos Summit Promotes Dirty Business As Usual

Three Amigos Summit Promotes Dirty Business As Usual

by Stephen Lendman

Meeting in Ottawa, Obama, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto promoted NAFTA and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) - anti-consumer trade legislation, benefitting corporate interests exclusively at the expense of fundamental freedoms and social justice.

"The integration of national economies into a global economy - that's here. That's done," said Obama. "We're going to do more to speak with one united North American voice on the world stage" - promoting greater "integration" at the expense of fundamental human and civil rights.

"Countries like ours (have) to…shape (global trading) rules…Because if we don't, China will write the rules, and they might not have the same regard for the values (sic) that we care about."

Globalization is the mortal enemy of sovereign independence, fundamental freedoms, and societies fit to live in.

Obama, Trudeau and Nieto stressed unity over independence, free, not fair, trade.

Their agenda is hugely destructive, policies harming millions, fostering wealth extremes, destroying good, high-paying jobs, creating Depression-level unemployment and poverty - so predatory corporate interests and super-rich elites can get richer.

Without naming him, Obama blasted Trump, saying "I'm not prepared to concede the notion that some of the rhetoric that's been popping up is populist."

"Somebody…who has never shown any regard for workers…has worked against economic opportunity for workers and ordinary people, (isn't) a populist because they say something controversial in order to win votes."

"That's not the measure of populism. That's nativism, or xenophobia, or worse." Nieto compared Trump to Mussolini, accusing him of wanting "to eliminate and destroy what has taken decades to build."

Trudeau stressed the special US/Canadian/Mexican relationship, transcending their leaders, he said.

America, Canada and Mexico, like EU nations, are fundamentally pro-business, pro-monied interests, pro-war, anti-populist, anti-worker, anti-democratic, anti-societies fit to live in for the vast majority of their citizens and residents.

Deplorable policies they endorse assure greater harm to millions than already.
