THE CATHOLIC CHURCH’S ROLL IN WORLD POPULATION HUMAN MISERY

One of the biggest obstacles facing humanity in the 21st century augurs into the harsh reality that our species exceeds the planet’s ability to sustain our relentless fecundity.  Adding 77 million humans annually, we undermine the planet’s ability to sustain all living creatures.

With population stability paramount for humanity, what road-blocks stand in the way of safe, sane and rational use of birth control?  Short answer: religions and culture.  Religions born in the first and sixth century, i.e., the Catholic and Islamic churches remain stuck in the past with paradigms that cannot continue in the present.  If they do, they promise accelerating human misery as well as all life on Earth--a brutal ride into the 21st century.

In a stunning illustration forcing a close look on the Catholic Church’s continued war on birth control, The Irish Times journalist Jon O’Brien wrote, “To be truly pro-life, the Vatican should lift its contraception ban,” July 29, 2008.

“Pope Paul VI's decision to uphold the ban continues to affect millions of families,” O’Brien said. “Some years ago a mother of six wrote to this newspaper recounting the effects the Catholic Church ban on artificial contraceptives was having on her life.

"You have a two-month-old on one side of the bed, a 16-month-old on the other, and a two-and-a-half-year-old in another room. Beside you is your husband that you love and who has been using his 'self-control' for at least four months. Verbal communication is of necessity cut down to a minimum and cozy chats together are out.

"So you take your chance and spend the next few weeks (longer if you are breast-feeding) worrying yourself sick and wondering if you are pregnant again. This is married life.

"What they never told me is what to do; the don'ts I am familiar with. ‘Use your self control,' I was told.

"'Put your husband in another bedroom,' my gynecologist said. Now that's all very well for a week, a month or two months - but forever?"

Washington DC journalist www.vdare.com and Family Planning advocate, Don Collins said, “Over 43 million abortions are performed every year around the world.”

If not for the Catholic Church’s ban on birth control, that number could doubtlessly be cut in half or even two thirds.  Unfortunately, religious dogma dies hard!

Why won’t the Pope move his mind into 21st century realities?  How can the Pope watch 18 million people starve to death annually worldwide, (Source: World Health Organization), but fail to become practical?  Is it better those 10 million children out of that 18 million total die of starvation? Year in and year out? Or, would birth control have stopped such relentless misery before death?

In another work, “Underdevelopment Is a State of Mind,” Lawrence E. Harrison exposes that, in the Catholic world, population grows so fast, it remains impossible to educate children—thus illiteracy and high birth rates follow. Final result manifests in accelerating poverty and human misery at all levels. Haiti illustrates a sobering example. On the Islamic side, Bangladesh features 144 million people in a landmass the size of Iowa! Worse, they expect to double their population to 290 million by mid century.  Religious insanity knows no bounds!

In July 2008, on the 40th anniversary of that fateful day in 1968 when Pope Paul VI slammed the door on the hopes and needs of Catholics around the world, the human race spins out of control with a 6.7 billion total world population—headed for 9.8 billion.  When will the Pope pull his head out of his proverbial crown and get a grip?

“Sadly, when faced with the proposal, the pope took a political decision to ignore the findings and instead adopted a minority report of the few members who opposed change. The impact of that fateful decision continues,” O’Brien said. “The ban has been particularly disastrous in the developing world where Catholic hierarchies hold significant sway over many national family planning policies, especially in Latin America and the Philippines, so obstructing good public health policies on family planning and HIV prevention.”

While American and European Catholics use birth control to maintain two child families and a quality of life unknown in places like Haiti and Bangladesh—the Pope and his entourage remain in the grips of outdated and unworkable dogmas from a bygone era.

How much human misery can they promote and how long will third world countries remain under the Pope’s unbending and irrational spell?  Will he change when the human races adds another three billion in 40 years to make the planet totally unsustainable and uninhabitable?

Your guess cannot be any worse or better than mine!

This three minute interview with Adam Schrager on “Your Show” May 4, 2008, NBC Channel 9 News, addresses the ramifications of adding 120 million people to USA in 35 years and six million people to Colorado as to water shortages, air pollution, loss of farmland, energy costs and degradation of quality of life.  In the interview, Frosty Wooldridge explains the ramifications of adding 120 million people to the USA in 35 years. He advances new concepts such as a “Colorado Carrying Capacity Policy”; “Colorado Environmental Impact Policy”; “Colorado Water Usage Policy”; “Colorado Sustainable Population Policy”.  Nationally, the USA needs a "National Sustainable Population Policy" to determine the carrying capacity of this nation for the short and long term.  Wooldridge is available for interviews on radio and TV having interviewed on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and FOX.
