More About: Gun Rights

Government control proves Disastrous

It has been said that individuals get the government they deserve.  The more government control that is demanded, the more deadly force results because government is nothing more than just that, deadly force; and nothing epitomizes this more than the God-awful catastrophe that took place on the Virginia Tech University campus last week when just one single individual mowed down thirty-two perfectly innocent human beings.

Just like government control of drugs increases violence, death, and destruction, just like government control of an individual’s retirement creates more poverty and dependency in one’s later years, just like government control of health care proves disastrous leaving increased numbers without health insurance and not being able to afford health care, government control of firearms leaves innocent individuals unprotected and enhances the ability of the criminal to overcome them.  The result is senseless deaths.

The founders saw through all of this government control nonsense.  They truly understood what government control of human life really means, disaster.  Anywhere government controls the actions of human beings increased death and destruction result, whether it is at Virginia Tech, or the University of Arizona , in Austin , Texas , Los Angeles , New York , Iraq , Sudan , or Zimbabwe .  Continued government control of any peaceful activity eventually ends in disaster.

Because government is force it is the reason why the founders instituted the Second Amendment in order that individuals could protect themselves not only from other individuals but more importantly from an overzealous government.  When government officials make law controlling individuals in any way, shape, or form, including the ability to defend oneself, death and destruction have a high propensity to occur.

No doubt there will be massive calls for even more government control of the use of firearms.  However, if more such laws are passed, even greater death and destruction will result.  Gun free zones like drug free zones, only allows criminals to know exactly where they can get away with their crime because criminals, by definition, do not abide by any so called gun control or drug control law.  Even with all of the gun laws on the books, individuals still “slip through the cracks.”

Just like having more speech, not less, encourages more peace and less violence, more firearms do the same.  Government officials must begin honoring the Second Amendment as well as the rest of the Bill of Rights, which all elected officials swear to uphold, by removing every single gun control law on the books, since they are all unconstitutional.  The amendment states that government is prevented from restricting individuals from owning firearms.

Government is instituted to protect individual rights not take them away.  In a free society individuals are responsible for their own lives.  Therefore, they must be able to defend themselves when attacked.  If government control takes away the ability of the individual to protect himself then government is not doing its job of truly protecting the individual.

If the world wants greater death and destruction then more government control is the answer.  However, if peace and tranquility is desired, then individuals must stop allowing and must stop demanding government officials to make laws that control the ability of the individual to live his life.  In other words government officials must begin honoring and obeying the United States Constitution and the citizenry must make sure they do.  However, in order to do that the citizenry must understand the purpose of the United States Constitution and the restrictions it places on government control.

Thomas Jefferson said it best, “Laws that forbid the carrying of arms… disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes…such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”

By listening to the founders Americans today can have the government they gave us, one that does not interfere with the activities of peaceful individuals.  More government control in the form of gun free zones, free speech zones, drug free zones, or any other kind of government restricted areas will only cause more death and destruction.  Government control is truly disastrous.
