The Biden administration announced Monday that Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is receiving Secret Service protection as of Monday following the attempted assassination of former President Trump this past weekend.

The independent presidential candidate had been seeking government protection and submitted six requests since his announcement in April 2023. 

"In light of this weekend's events, the president has directed me to work with the Secret Service to provide protection to Robert Kennedy Jr.," Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said at a White House press briefing Monday.

"We are in a heightened and very dynamic threat environment," Mayorkas added.
