During a widespread or national grid down scenario you will have a maximum window of 7 days before the general public realizes that power might not be coming back for a long time.  Grid down means no functioning production, no functioning supply chain, no retailers, no groceries and necessities, no phones, minimal police availability and an endless list of other problems.  The average person has around one week of food on hand in their homes, and perhaps one week of fuel for their generator.  In the deep winter, heating issues will accelerate the fear.  The populace will lose patience by the 7 day mark, if not sooner.

Once all of their supplies dwindle and people realize the grid is not going to be fixed, panic will ensue.  This means you will have one week or less to get your survival plans in order and be ready for what comes next.  While many preppers will already have certain necessities in place, there will still be a number of things they will need to do to make sure they can keep those supplies, and a number of concerns they will have to take into account if they are unfamiliar with their neighbors.  We will discuss all of this and more in the next issue of the Wild Bunch.
