In the sweetest of returns to Flushing Meadows on Sunday night, the 36-year-old Serbian saw off Daniil Medvedev in a physical encounter that pushed both men to their limits, even with a straight sets outcome of 6-3, 7-6, 6-3.

After the match Djokovic revealed how his daughter Tara had been an 'inspiration' throughout the grueling contest. 'I was watching her the entire match. She showed me the fist pump. She is only six years old, and in exactly the moments when I needed to have this playfulness and this joy and to relax a little bit in high stress – particularly in the second set – she looked at me and she gave me this energy,' he told EuroSport.
