McEnany previously served as White House press secretary from April 2020 to January 2021, representing the Trump administration through its tumultuous final months as the former president vocally protested the outcome of the 2020 election.

"I am honored to share that I will be hosting Fox News Tonight on [Fox News] at 8pm ET all next week (5/8-5/12)!  Set your DVR," McEnany tweeted. "Please join me next week as we dig into the state of politics, media, culture, and faith in America!"

However, not all were content with the new arrival to Fox's primetime slot, and McEnany's announcement attracted derision from both right and left on social media.

CNN anchor Jake Tapper criticized McEnany for allegedly promoting the "big lie," a term which liberal journalists borrowed from Adolf Hitler to describe the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.
