The staffer was walking down the street with a companion less than a mile and a half from the U.S. Capitol, when the suspect, Glynn Neal, 42, who was hiding in a corner allegedly "popped out of the corner and proceeded to stab (the victim) multiple times," according to the police statement on the matter.

The staffer and the companion were able to take the attacker to the ground. The police arrived and found the staffer collapsed and bleeding, and suffering from stab wounds. He was taken to the hospital with "life-threatening" injuries, according to Fox 5 DC.

The suspect was arrested and later charged with Assault with Intent to Kill (with a knife).
