Brown freshman Olivia Pichardo has been named to the school's baseball team

She is the first woman to play college baseball at the Division I level

Pichardo is a pitcher and outfielder for the national women's baseball team 

Brown University freshman Olivia Pichardo has been named to the school's baseball team, becoming the first woman to earn the honor at the Division I level.

Pichardo played varsity baseball at her high school in Queens before enrolling at Brown, where she was welcomed to the team by coach Grant Achilles during a team meeting on October 4.

'Olivia, thanks for joining us for the fall and, officially, for the spring,' Achilles said to a round of applause.

'It was definitely a surreal moment for me because it's something that I've wanted since eighth grade,' Pichardo said in a press release. 'It's kind of crazy to know that I'm living out my dream right now and my ideal college experience that I've always wanted, so that's really cool.'
