EEC energy minister: Most EEU countries have agreed to pay for natural gas in Russian rubles

Virtually all of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) member countries have agreed on the transition to payment for natural gas in Russian rubles. The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) minister in charge of energy and infrastructure told about this to RIA Novosti.

"Within the framework of [natural] gas [supply] mutual calculations in the Eurasian [Economic] Union, some countries have agreed to pay for Russian gas only in [Russian] rubles. Russia, Belarus, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan agree to it. Kazakhstan is now thinking in that regard; they want to trade in the national currency as well," Arzybek Kozhoshev said during the Russian Energy Week.

Also, he expressed confidence that trade in national currencies within the EEU will continue to gain momentum over time.
