Daughter of staunch Putin ally Alexander Dugin killed in car bombing near Moscow: video

• By David Meyer and Patrick Reilly

Russian authorities have launched a murder investigation Sunday into the car bomb killing of Darya Dugina, a prominent Putin supporter in her own right.

Dugina died instantly late Saturday night when a bomb went off inside her father's Toyota Land Cruiser, according to Russian state media.

Her father — whose far-right, Russian nationalist ideas are said to have inspired Putin's invasion of Ukraine — was on the scene as first responders arrived.

Video showed the bearded Dugin in apparent shock as he took in the fiery scene, holding his hands over his head.

"An explosive device, presumably installed in the Toyota Land Cruiser, went off on a public road and the car caught fire. The female driver died at the scene," investigators said in a statement to TASS. "All possible versions of the crime are being probed into."

The explosion occurred while Dugina, 29, was driving on Mozhaisk Highway in Moscow.

Her father intended to ride along, but ended up in a different vehicle, according to news outlet Baza.
