More than 500 flights across the US are canceled today as pilots blame 'staff shortage'--

More than 500 flights have been canceled and more than 2,000 have been delayed across the US today 

Toronto's airport is also experiencing delays and cancelations as the chaos stretches up north 

Delta Airlines revealed its staff has been working more overtime than it did in 2018 and 2019 combined, and said it expects 'operational challenges' this weekend

It has so offered passengers more flexibility to change travel plans this weekend, citing that customers will now be allowed to 'rebook their trip...with no fare difference or change fees' 

In addition, Delta has already cut 100 flights per day and Southwest snipped off 20,000 this summer, making it even harder for busy airports to keep up with enthusiastic travelers

An estimated 48million Americans are expected to travel this weekend, with 3.5million of them expected to take to the skies. Delta Airlines 

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said earlier this month that airlines had until July 4 to figure out the issues and work out the kinks so travelers can have a smooth summer holiday
