Colonel Macgregor explained that Putin's goal in his strikes on Ukraine is to stop encrachment by NATO, and has warned on many occasions that: 'We will not allow the expansion of NATO to a point where NATO is touching our border, specifically, Ukraine and Georgia. We see these as Trojan Horses for NATO's military power and US influence." Ukraine is out-gunned, and without help from the West, Russia will prevail. He said that Ukraine is likely to be partitioned and the eastern half will act as a buffer between Russia and the West.

Journalist Mike Whitney wrote that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has sold out his country and has antagonized Russia by deploying 60,000 combat troops where they could lob mortal shells into the towns of the ethnic Russians. Zelensky has also expressed interest in developing nuclear weapons, which is a threat to Russia, and he allowed numerous shipments of lethal weapons to Ukraine. Zelensky is sending Ukrainians to die in a losing war and is inflicting incalculable suffering on the people. Whitney says Zelensky is a puppet and has been acting on orders from Washington from the beginning.
