The MIT Digital Currency Initiative and The Federal Reserve Bank of Boston have released white paper and open source code for the first phase of what looks to be the new "digital dollar" for the United States of America. The system is called Project Hamilton. It borrows heavily from Bitcoin and has some disturbing properties. This is a quick look at the most important of those properties and the team behind the system.
