San Jose Passes Law Requiring Gun Owners To Purchase Insurance,

San Jose gun owners will soon be required to invest in liability insurance through their renter's or homeowner's insurance and to also pay annual fees on their Second Amendment rights, making San Jose "the first city, state, or jurisdiction in the nation" to adopt such a law.

The mayor said San Jose taxpayers incur approximately $442 million in gun-related costs annually and the new fees would help cover damages or loss resulting from "accidental" use of the weapons. The law change does nothing to address the issue of criminals obtaining weapons illegally and places a tax on a Constitutional right. The city was served with its first lawsuit from the National Association for Gun Rights less than 24 hours after the vote.
