President Joe Biden signed a law Thursday to make 'Juneteenth National Independence Day' a federal holiday 

On Wednesday night, the House of Representatives passed the bill with 14 Republicans voting against it 

In the Senate, it passed by unanimously

'Juneteenth marks both the long, hard night of slavery and subjugation and a promise of a brighter morning to come,' Biden said at the White House 

He called it a day to 'remember the moral stain and the terrible toll that slavery took on the country - and continues to take'
