Brown, a free agent addition in March, placed his name on the reserve/retired list. According to ESPN, "the word internally was he simply felt it was time for him to step away." Brown had signed a one-year deal that would pay him up to $1.0475 million, including $550,000 in guarantees.

Brown was in line to potentially start and be a special teams contributor. The Eagles' roster includes linebackers T.J. Edwards, Nate Gerry, Davion Taylor, Duke Riley, Alex Singleton, Shaun Bradley and Dante Olson.

The Chargers selected Brown out of Akron in the fifth round of the 2016 draft. At Akron, he was All-MAC first-team three years in a row.
