Republicans senators who dumped stocks after they were briefed on the brewing coronavirus crisis are claiming their hands are clean.

Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr said Friday that he relied on 'public news reports' when he sold off up to $1.6 million in stocks before the coronavirus outbreak caused markets to crash.

'Specifically I closely followed CNBC's daily health and science reporting out of its Asia bureaus at the time,' Burr said in a statement. 'Understanding the assumption many could make in hindsight however, I spoke this morning with the chairman of the Senate Ethics Committee and asked him to open a complete review of the matter with full transparency.'

Another senator on the hook for dumping stocks - and buying one that got a boost when Americans began tele-working, Sen. Kelly Loeffler, went on Fox News Channel Friday and said she did nothing wrong.
