TEHRAN (FNA)- Dressed in black, Iranians from all walks of life flooded the streets to express their fury over Washington's assassination of Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Qods Force Commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, praising him as a "hero" of the nation and burning flags of the United States.

The rallies on Friday were marred by several incidents of flag-burning across Iran, after the Pentagon had announced that President Donald Trump authorized a US military strike near Baghdad's airport which resulted in the martyrdom of General Soleimani.

Carrying photos of the martyred commander, a large number of Iranian people gathered in front of the UN office in Tehran to strongly condemn the top commander's assassination by the United States.

Crowds of people have also been gathering outside General Soleimani's house in the Central city of Kerman, where the General spent his youth and worked before joining the IRGC.

Since early hours of the day, a large number of people in Tehran and other cities poured to the streets, mosques and metro stations after the Islamic Republic confirmed that the Qods chief was killed in Iraq. They carried placards reading "Down with the US" and "Down with Israel" to express their strong condemnation of Washington's operation which led to the martyrdom of General Soleimani.

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has stated those who assassinated General Soleimani must await a tough revenge.
