Alexa Kasdan visited Dr Roya Fathollahi at Manhattan Specialty Care with a cold

She was sent a $28,395.50 bill for the throat swab, which her insurer covered

But Kasdan reported it to New York's Office of Professional Medical Conduct 

'I thought it was a mistake, I thought maybe they meant $250', she told NPR 

Kasdan's doctor is said to have requested 'unnecessary and unusual' tests 

The sample was also sent to an out-of-network service for work at a lab which has the same phone number and address as Kasdan's doctor's office, reports say
