Donald Trump is bringing in a staunch Republican ally and former member of Congress to lead the fight against the impeachment inquiry into his presidency.

Trey Gowdy, the former Republican congressman from South Carolina, has agreed to act as outside counsel for Trump and lead up the impeachment fight.

He was at the White House on Tuesday to discuss the matter with the president, according to multiple reports.

Gowdy will not be joining the White House staff but work outside of the administration.
