Last week Julian Assange of Wikileaks was charged with 17 new charges under the espionage act marking the first time this has ever happened to a journalist. What was his crime? He published the Iraq War Logs, reports which detail 109,032 deaths in Iraq, comprised of 66,081 'civilians'; 23,984 'enemy' (those labeled as insurgents); 15,196 'host nation' (Iraqi government forces) and 3,771 'friendly' (coalition forces). The majority of the deaths (66,000, over 60%) of these were civilian deaths. The info was leaked to him by Chelsie Manning who at the time went by Bradley Manning who is now also back in prison for blowing the whistle.
