Ratings: CMA Awards Crumble 34 Percent From 2017 to New Low

Sad song: ABC's CMA Awards took a tumble(weed) on Wednesday, plummeting 34 percent in TV ratings from 2017. The special was down 30 percent year over year in total viewers.

Still, ABC easily won each half-hour of the evening.

With "Empire," Fox finished second in primetime among adults 18-49. NBC was No. 2 in overall audience members.

ABC was first in ratings with a 2.1 rating/9 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 10.1 million, according to preliminary numbers. That was all the CMAs.

Fox was second in ratings with a 1.3/5, but fourth in viewers with 4.3 million. "Empire" at 8 p.m. posted a 1.4/6 and 4.9 million viewers. "Star" at 9 had a 1.1/4 and 3.7 million viewers.

NBC was third in ratings with a 1.2/5 and second in viewers with 6.9 million. "Chicago Med" at 8 landed a 1.2/5 and 7.5 million viewers. "Chicago Fire" at 9 put up a 1.3/5 and 7.3 million viewers. At 10, "Chicago P.D." got a 1.0/5 and 6 million viewers.
