Pepsi reportedly looks to join Coca-Cola in creating marijuana-infused drinks
• https://blog.sfgate.com, By Oscar PascualThe giant soft drink company's chief financial officer, Hugh Johnston, hinted at creating marijuana-infused beverages in a recent interview with CNBC, according to an AFP report.
"We will look at it very critically," Johnston said in the CNBC interview."But I am not prepared to share any plans that we may have in the space right now."
Johnston's comments come weeks after nemesis Coca-Cola expressed interest in creating wellness drinks containing CBD. Pepsi would likely do the same, rather than looking into a beverage containing the psychoactive compound THC.
"We are closely watching the growth of non-psychoactive CBD as an ingredient in functional wellness beverages around the world," Coca-Cola spokesman Kent Landers told Bloomberg News. "The space is evolving quickly. No decisions have been made at this time."
Both Coca-Cola and PepsiCo join a handful of alcoholic beverage companies looking to incorporate legal cannabis into its products, including the businesses that own Corona and Blue Moon beer, respectively.
