TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - UPDATE: This has been postponed to the backup date of October 3, 2018.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) on Thursday, September 20, 2018.
During this time, Wireless Emergency Alert compatible cell phones will receive a test message at approximately 2:18 p.m. (Eastern Time). A second audio test will follow around 2:20 p.m. for the Emergency Alert System, of which participants include radio and television broadcasters, cable systems, satellite radio and television providers, and wireline video providers. The test is expected to last approximately one minute, according to a media release sent by Lucas County to 13abc.
If messages cannot be sent September 20, this test of these two national alert systems will have a backup date of October 3.
The WEA text alert, which will be received by many Lucas County cell phone users, will say: THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed. This will be the first nationwide test of the WEA system.
Previously, emergency alert tests were conducted for the EAS system in 2011, 2016, and 2017 during the month of September in collaboration with the FCC, broadcasters, and emergency management officials in recognition of FEMA's National Preparedness Month.
