Tuesday may be the hottest day of the year in Phoenix with a forecasted high of 118 degrees and that means some energy records at Arizona Public Service may be broken.

In June 2017, APS broke multiple long-held energy records due to the extreme heat and that may be the case once again for the hottest day of 2018 on July 24.

From Monday, July 23 to Wednesday, July 25, Phoenix will be under an Excessive Heat Warning. During this time, residents are recommended to stay indoors.

With the temperatures rising and ACs on, APS expects record numbers for energy usage. 

That is why they are making sure they have enough resources to keep the lights on and ACs running.

APS said they are constantly making sure they have enough power during the right times of day.

On the APS trading floor, traders are finding the best ways for customers to save money.

"The group you just saw a minute ago, they are constantly monitoring the market," said Jeff Burke, director of resource planning for APS. "Monitoring system conditions."

APS said the traders will buy and sell power to the benefit of customers and are constantly checking temperatures.
