This baby's first word was 'Alexa'

It's not a classic "baby's first word," but it was 1-year-old Joe Brady's pick.

The British baby was trying to activate Amazon's virtual assistant, parents Lottie Ledger and Mark Brady tell Caters News Agency.

Joe was introduced to the device when he was an infant at his grandparents' home in Gateshead, England.

"It was one of the few things he could get a reaction from at that time. Alexa would say 'Sorry, I didn't get that,' " Ledger, 21, tells Caters.

Joe heard his parents ask Alexa for help, and soon followed suit.

"One day he managed it. We thought it was funny at first so we encouraged it," Ledger says. "He actually said Alexa before he said Mum or Dad."

But Joe, who's now 18 months old and has a wider vocabulary, is actually more interested in traditional toys for tots.

"He's obsessed with cars and all that kind of stuff at the moment — he doesn't really bother with Alexa anymore," Ledger says.

That's good news, considering some doctors think kids who use tech devices at a young age could turn into "psychotic junkies."
