• Daily Mail

The first private police force to hit Britain has proved such a success that the scheme is set to be rolled out nationwide.

The scheme, known as My Local Bobby, offers a 'meet-and-greet' service from a client's car and a hotline to their officer who can be tracked on an iPad.

These uniformed 'bobbies' cover up to 250 houses and the firm promises to have a response at the scene within five minutes, all for the fee of £100 to £200 a month.

The private service, which has been patrolling wealthy London streets in Belgravia, Mayfair and Kensington, moves on drunks and drug users, and has even begun murder inquiries.

The service was, set up by former Metropolitan Police detective chief inspector David McKelvey and Tony Nash, 52, former commander of the London borough of Newham, describes itself as 'Britain's first private police force'.

Demand for the bobbies, who dress in a high-vis red jacket and cap, has soared as residents feel let down by over-burdened police officers, reports the Guardian.

They now intend to branch further out and are looking to move forces into other cities and more rural areas.
