Cuomo signs bill banning use of e-cigarettes indoors

• timesunion.com By Matthew Hamilton

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday night signed into law a bill that adds e-cigarettes to the Clean Indoor Air Act, banning their use in bars, restaurants and other indoor and some outdoor areas.

The bill was one of 83 that Cuomo has until the end of the day to act on.

Under the new law, vaping will be banned in, among other areas, the workplace, on public transportation, indoors at all public and private colleges, and in outdoor areas where smoking is otherwise banned. The new proscriptions will go into effect in 30 days.

Vaping still will be allowed in any private home, hotel rooms and outdoor dining areas that do not have a roof or ceiling enclosure, among other areas.

Cuomo initially proposed such a ban in his executive budget this year.
